Vanity not so fair...
Is it vain of me to be contemplating booking a hairdresser appointment prior to going to the government shopfront to get my licence renewed?
It's probably futile, given that it's statistically impossible to look good in any passport style photo.

Not at all. I mean you have it for 5 years.
It would be the equivalent of you using a year 7 photo when in year 12 after all.

I wonder if they'll let me Photoshop the licence photo before they stick it into the card...

No way. I mean, you will be stuck with the photo for 5 years,and they never take a good photo so I think you have to stack the odds in your favour.
Since I am posting this comment after your birthday, and your licence expires on it, (happy birthday from the loval government- now give us money!) did you go to the hairdresser or not.
I for one will do something similar when mine is due (1/1/2 years from now). My current one looks like a really disapproving librarian- hair all pulled back and serious like.
I would love to look like a movie star - but that aint gonna happen.

I did in fact go to the hairdresser. Sadly, my hair looked good in the photo but there wasn't much I could do about the rest of the picture. :|
